During decades, Costa Rica had only one telecom operator. In 2008, following the commitments made by the country in the Free Trade Agreement between Central America, the Dominican Republic and the United States, the telecom market was opened to competition. Today, telecommunication services such as cellular telephony, private networks, data transportation, T.V. and IP phone services, etc. can be offered by private corporations. Nowadays, there are over a hundred licensed companies by the Telecommunications Superintendence to provide telecom services in a wide variety. AG Legal has experienced and trained professionals regarding telecom regulation (i.e. registration with the Telecommunications Superintendence, regulation rates, approval of contracts for telecom services, consumer protection process and competition) in order to give legal support to those companies willing to invest in Costa Rica in this kind of services.
